Mineral Resources Development Fund: Shared-Funding Exploration Grants

Description:

The Mineral Resources Development Fund supports prospectors, exploration companies, researchers, post-secondary students, and projects in the mining sector that attract investment, help grow Nova Scotia’s economy and create jobs, especially in rural areas. A Shared-Funding Exploration Grant is available to applicants who commit to investing more than $40,000 in mineral exploration and development in Nova Scotia. The Grant will match or partially match the applicant’s exploration investments and will provide awards between $40,000 and $100,000 for eligible expenses. The total award may be increased by $2,500 if the applicant hires a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) to assist with the exploration program

Comments on Funding:

The grants will be matched at different rates, dependent on the stage of the project.
• Projects at exploration stage will be matched at 50%.
• Projects at advanced exploration and/or project development stage will be
matched at 30%.
• The classification of the projects as exploration or advanced
exploration/project development will be determined by Natural Resources and
Renewables (the Department).

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

1. Be holders or be in a registered agreement with the holder of valid licenses under the Mineral Resources Act. If not the licensee, they must provide a registered Summary of Agreement(s) with the Registry of Mineral and Petroleum Titles, showing a valid exploration agreement with the license holder(s). This must accompany the application.

2. For licenses held by companies, the applicant must be the registered signing officer or agent in NovaROC, authorized to report assessment work and file required permits (e.g., drilling notification, excavation registration). The company must be registered to do business in Nova Scotia or fund work on claims that have been optioned or joint-ventured.

3. Submit written authorization if the applicant is a living individual signing on behalf of the license holder(s) but is not a registered agent.

4. Have fulfilled all commitments from previous grants under the MRDF or Nova Scotia Mineral Incentive Program. Non-compliance may lead to ineligibility for future applications.

5. Adhere to the Mineral Resources Act and applicable government regulations. Both the applicant and rights holder(s) must follow these regulations to remain eligible for future grants.

6. Ensure companies are registered and in good standing with the Registry of Joint Stock Companies, as per the Companies Act, to conduct business in Nova Scotia. If the company has no local presence, an agent must be appointed in the province for legal services.
