Energy Training Program

Description:

The Energy Training Program helps postsecondary students and recent graduates get work experience in the energy sector by providing a hiring incentive for local businesses. Employers receive an incentive of 50 to 60% of the student or graduate’s wages for a 12 to 17-week work term. 

Comments on Funding:

Funding is a:

  1. 1
    50% wage subsidy (up to $7.50 an hour) for students and recent graduates;
  2. 2
    60% wage subsidy (up to $9 an hour) for students or recent graduates who self-identify as Mi’kmaq or Indigenous, a woman in an underrepresented occupation, visible minority, African Nova Scotian or a person with a disability.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be businesses with up to 500 employees operating in Nova Scotia;
  • have a direct connection to the energy sector;
  • provide work experience that’s directly related to the student’s field of study (Work term positions must pay at least the legal minimum wage, plus 4% vacation pay).

Larger local companies may be considered for the program if funding is available.

Documentation Needed: 

Applicants must submit the application form.

Other Things to Note:

The 2023 funding period is from 24 April 2023 to 18 August 2023.
