Book Publishing (Periodicals) – Operations Grant

Description:

The Book Publishing (Periodicals) – Operations Grant provides grants to for-profit businesses to assist in covering some of the operations and projects costs to produce and present periodicals that foster an appreciation of literature and the arts in New Brunswick. 

Comments on Funding:

The grant amount is based on the previous year’s grant and on the strength and merit of the application.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • for-profit businesses whose principal activity is arts periodical publishing;
  • operating as a Canadian company held and controlled by New Brunswick residents;
  • have their head office located in New Brunswick;
  • have been incorporated and operating for a minimum of one year;
  • have written their works primarily in English, French, or one of Canada’s Aboriginal languages;
  • have included in their regular program of publishing at least two issues during the last fiscal year;
  • have their periodical focuses mainly on content written or created by Canadian writers or artists;
  • have their periodical focuses mainly on unpublished material;
  • have honour a clear policy respecting the use of writers’ or featured artists’ intellectual property;
  • have the general public as their target market (as opposed to marrow niche markets or special interest groups);
  • employ permanent qualified administrative and editorial professionals;
  • offer the services of qualified staff, both at the editorial/artistic level and management level;
  • have established appropriate methods of distribution;
  • have submitted all information as listed under the “Grant Requirements” section of these guidelines.

Application Steps:

Applicants must complete the application form and submit all required attachments;

Applicants must submit one copy of each of the three most recent issues of the periodical;

Applicants must submit the application in electronic format, along with electronic copies of support documentation, via email to culture@gnb.ca or saved to a flash drive and mailed to/dropped off at the Branch’s office on or before May 1st. Hard copies of periodical issues must be mailed to or dropped off at the office by May 1st.

Applicants must acknowledge the support of the Province of New Brunswick in their new eligible publications.

Documentation Needed: 

Applicants must submit:

  • the completed application form,
  • the company’s financial statements for the most recent completed fiscal year,
  • the Financial Summary sheet,
  • their most recent catalogue,
  • their standard contract with contributors,
  • their Canada Council application form, if applicable,
  • their documents of incorporation, unless they are already on file with the Department,
  • one copy of each of last year’s issues to the Department. 

Other Things to Note:

Applications must be submitted by May 1st of the request year.
In exceptional cases, periodicals that are published in other provinces of the Atlantic region and that are of a regional scope are eligible for assistance.
