Description:

The Young Farmer Mentorship Program helps young farmers develop skills, knowledge and connections within the agricultural industry.

Comments on Funding:

Applicants are eligible for 100% in funding assistance on total eligible activities. Young farmers and mentors
can receive up to a maximum of $2,500 each for eligible expenses related to the goals identified in the
young farmer’s objective plan.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

1. young farmers, need to:

a. be a permanent resident of Nova Scotia
b. be 19 to 40 years old an actively farming in the program year
c. be currently involved in agriculture or can display a strong commitment to becoming involved in the industry (like volunteer work or education)
d. commit to at least weekly communication and a minimum of 1 in-person meeting each month over the 4-month period

2. farms, need to:

a. be currently and properly registered in the correct income category under the Farm Registration Act
b. be at least 19 years old and actively farming in the program year
c. have at least 5 years of experience in your field of work
d. commit to at least weekly communication and a minimum of 1 in-person meeting each month over the 4-month period

3. agri-businesses, you need to:

a. represent Nova Scotia agriculture and agri-food products
b. be at least 19 years old
c. have at least 5 years of experience in your field of work
d. conduct value-added processing of a raw Nova Scotia agriculture product, with a direct partnership and significant economic impact to Nova Scotia’s agricultural industry
e. demonstrate the value or use of Nova Scotia products and ingredients
f. commit to at least weekly communication and a minimum of 1 in-person meeting each month over the 4-month period
