Description:

The Market Opportunities and Diversification Program helps producers, processors and industry associations with local and export activities. Activities include:

product and packaging modification to meet specific market requirements or preferences
marketing activities to meet changing requirements or emerging opportunities
the sale of quality agricultural products, inside and outside of Nova Scotia
capacity building and other development that helps products and businesses compete in target markets

Comments on Funding:

Applicants can apply for a maximum of 10% of their gross commodity income up to a maximum
of $20,000 per year.

Deadline:

Applications are closed. Stay tuned for future intake.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

1. a farm
a. be currently and properly registered in the correct income category under the Farm Registration Act
b. have generated an annual eligible gross commodity income of at least $30,000
c. be at least 19 years old and actively farming in the program year

2. Mi’kmaq conducting farming activities in a Mi’kmaw community
3. agri-business
a. represent Nova Scotia agriculture and agri-food products
b. have generated an annual eligible agri-business income of at least $30,000
c. conduct value-added processing of a raw Nova Scotia agriculture product, with a direct partnership and significant economic impact to Nova Scotia’s agricultural industry
4. agriculture industry association.
a. For agriculture industry associations, you need to demonstrate non-profit status.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:

1. Submit a complete application with all supporting project quotes by the deadline
2. Submit a complete Program Funding Registration Form.
3. Eligible project expenses will be recognized within the Activity Period stated in the table
below. Please refrain from making purchases before receiving a Letter of Agreement
from the Programs Office.
