Vehicle Retrofit Program (Persons with Disabilities)

Description:

This Vehicle Retrofit Program is designed to increase the mobility of persons with a disability residing in the province of New Brunswick by providing financial assistance towards the cost of supplying and installing eligible retrofitting and accessibility features for vehicles. Eligible applicants include individual residents, organizations, municipalities or private companies providing transportation services to persons with a disability. 

Comments on Funding:

Funding is 80% of the cost of eligible accessibility features for a new or existing vehicle to a maximum total grant of $8,000.00.
Taxes are the responsibility of the applicant.
Sales tax on some accessibility features may be rebated by the Department of Finance, Province of New Brunswick.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • individual residents, 
  • organizations, 
  • municipalities,
  • private companies,
  • be providing transportation services to persons with a disability,
  • be residents or be based within the province of New Brunswick.

To be eligible for a grant the vehicle must have a valid Safety Inspection Sticker.

Application Steps:

Applicants must submit a completed application form and the supporting documents to Ability NB, 440 Wilsey Road, Suite 102, Fredericton, NB E3B 7G5,

Applicants must use the grant within 6 months from the date on the letter of approval or to request an additional 6 month extension. Otherwise, the grant will expire and a new application will be required.

Documentation Needed: 

Applicants must submit a completed grant application form and the following documents:

  • a photocopy of the Driver’s License and of the Vehicle Registration,
  • a photocopy of the Safety Inspection Form,
  • original cost estimates from two vendors.

Other Things to Note:

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is partnering with Ability New Brunswick on a pilot project that will see the non-profit organization administer the province’s vehicle retrofit program.
