Description:

Mitacs Accelerate Program provides funding to reduce the cost to access collaborative research from post-secondary institutes and faculty supervisors. Each 15-week research project is awarded $15,000. Approved applicants receive a 15-week internship with a Masters or PhD level student to complete a research project aimed at solving a unique business challenge. 

Comments on Funding:

Applicants which contribute $7,500 per 4- to 6-month unit receive a $15,000 research award. For six or more units with three or more interns, applicants have the option to contribute $6,000 per project unit, which receives a $13,300 research award. Funding scales to project size. Project contributions may be eligible for SR&ED credits.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be for-profit corporations and eligible not-for-profit corporations, municipalities, and hospitals in Canada;
  • be for-profit businesses operating outside Canada;
  • eligible intern-owned start-ups at approved incubators, under the Accelerate Entrepreneur initiative (Contact accelerate@mitacs.ca to confirm your start-up’s eligibility);
  • be from all sectors.

Eligibility of not-for-profit corporations, hospitals, and municipalities as well as the project’s economic orientation for these partners must be assessed prior to proposal submission.
