Business Energy Rebate Program

Description:

The Business Energy Rebate program provides rebates on energy efficient products to businesses of all types. Funding is available for commercial heating, commercial lighting, variable frequency drives, agriculture technologies, commercial kitchen equipment, commercial refrigeration equipment, commercial laundry equipment, pumping equipment, it and datacenters, compressed air, commercial water heating, commercial solar equipment, pool equipment. Efficiency Nova Scotia offers two types of rebates: 

  1. 1
    Mail-In Rebates;
  2. 2
    In-Store Rebates (Instant Rebates).

Comments on Funding:

Funding is an energy rebate. Applicants should check the rebate guide for each product.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be businesses;
  • be located in Nova Scotia;
  • have purchased and installed the qualifying products;
  • have pre-approval for larger projects where the customer will receive over $15,000 in incentives, or if applying for projects for IT and data center, water heating and solar measures.

Application Steps:

Applicant must contact Efficiency Nova Scotia for recommendations, if they do not know where to start;

Applicant must obtain pre-approval, if applying for IT and data center, water heating and solar measures;

3

Applicant must obtain pre-approval, if applying for a larger project where the applicant will receive over $15,000 in incentives;

4

Applicant must submit the application to Efficiency Nova Scotia up to 90 days after purchase.

Documentation Needed: 

The applicant must submit the following documents:

  1. 1
    commercial product rebate application,
  2. 2
    applicable worksheets,
  3. 3
    detailed quote,
  4. 4
    final detailed invoice with proof of purchase,
  5. 5
    proof of purchase from the distributor or retailer along with the contractors invoice on the eligible products that were approved by Efficiency Nova Scotia,
  6. 6
    project completion form,
  7. 7
    a copy of an electric bill showing the Nova Scotia Rate Code and other information deemed necessary by Efficiency Nova Scotia to adequately review the rebate request.

Small Business Energy Solutions Program

Amount:

Description:

The Small Business Energy Solutions program offers rebates to cover up to 80% of the project cost and other incentives for various energy efficiency upgrades. 

Comments on Funding:

Funding will take the form of:

  1. 1
    energy rebates to cover up to 80% of the project cost for various energy efficiency upgrades;
  2. 2
    a free energy assessment;
  3. 3
    a 24-months interest-free financing on the applicant's Nova Scotia Power bill.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • small business customers whose annual electrical energy consumption is less than 350,000 kWh (approximately $3,800 per month in electricity costs);
  • located within Nova Scotia;
  • electrically heated small businesses, if interested in the 24-months interest-free financing.

Applicant must contact the Small Business Energy Specialist, Spencer LeBlanc for a free 15 minute energy consultation to review his/her power usage, current equipment and discuss next steps to become more efficient (email sleblanc@efficiencyns.ca);

Applicant must obtain pre-approval (incentives will not be paid out for products already purchased).

Commercial EV Charger Rebate: DC Fast Chargers (20 kW to 49 kW)

Description:

With the Commercial EV Charger Rebate Program, qualified applicants can receive a rebate toward the cost to purchase and install qualifying DC Fast Chargers (20 kW to 49 kW) at workplaces, for light-duty electric fleet vehicles, in public places or on-street. 

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to 50% of total eligible expenditures, to a maximum of $15,000 per charger. Rebates are limited to six 20kW-49kW Direct Current Fast Chargers.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be legal entities incorporated or registered in Canada or abroad, including not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, such as companies, industry associations, research associations, indigenous and community groups, academic institutions, provincial, territorial, regional or municipal governments or their departments or agencies;
  • be organizations and not individuals;
  • not be Federal Government entities, such as federal departments, federal crown corporations or federal agencies, are ineligible;
  • install chargers which must:
  • be located in Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • be available for use by the public or employees of the applicant;
  • not be installed at a private residence, even if a business is registered at the same address;
  • have a dedicated parking space for each charging connector or each Charger unit;
  • remain connected to a network for minimum of three years. Upon request by the program administrator, program participants must have the ability to provide charger usage data for a period not less than three months via the web/cloud portal used by the charger;
  • be installed by a certified electrician;
  • be installed and completed no later than 12 months following pre-approval or February 15, 2024, whichever is sooner;
  • be a new installation, or expansion of an existing installation (not for the replacement of an existing installation).

Application Steps:

Applicants must complete and submit a Proof of Approval to Install form (this attests to the fact that the applicant has authority over the property or they are a representative of the group with such authority);

2

Applicants must hire an electrician, select the site and the chargers;

3

Applicants must submit the application and all required documents.

4

Applicants must sign a contribution agreement prior to the installation of your charger(s), if the project is approved;

5

Applicants must install the charger(s);

6

Applicants must submit final required documents.

Documentation Needed: 

Applicants must submit:

  1. 1
    a written quote or spec sheet identifying final pricing, including taxes and shipping;
  2. 2
    a quote from a qualified electrical contractor for the charger installation;
  3. 3
    Proof of Approval to Install Form;
  4. 4
    a picture and a brief description clearly outlining the proposed location and parking space(s);
  5. 5
    a copy of the businesses certificate of incorporation.

Once installation is complete, applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. 1
    a copy of the final invoice broken down by the list of eligible costs that they are claiming, and clearly showing proof of payment;
  2. 2
    a copy of all other final invoices for eligible costs incurred;
  3. 3
    a copy of the Electrical Certificate of Inspection from Service NL, for the completed electrical projects done during the installation of their approved charger;
  4. 4
    proof of an internet connection (this can be a screen shot of the backend system clearly showing the chargers are connected to internet);
  5. 5
    a photo and description of the location of the installed charger(s) showing they are installed and operational;
  6. 6
    a photo of the dedicated parking space and signage for each charger connector.

Other Things to Note:

Rebates will be issued to qualified participants for eligible EV charging infrastructure projects on a first-come, first-serve basis or until program funding is depleted. Projects must be completed no later than 12 months following pre-approval or February 15, 2024, whichever is sooner.

Commercial EV Charger Rebate: DC Fast Chargers (50 kW and above)

Description:

With the Commercial EV Charger Rebate Program, qualified applicants can receive a rebate toward the cost to purchase and install qualifying DC Fast Chargers (50 kW and above) at workplaces, for light-duty electric fleet vehicles, in public places or on-street. 

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to 50% of total eligible expenditures, to a maximum of $50,000 per charger. Rebates are limited to one 50kW or greater Direct Current Fast Charger.

Description:

With the Commercial EV Charger Rebate Program, qualified applicants can receive a rebate toward the cost to purchase and install qualifying Level 2 Chargers at workplaces, for light-duty electric fleet vehicles, in public places or on-street. 

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to 50% of total eligible expenditures, to a maximum of $5,000 per charger. Rebates are limited to 19 level 2 chargers.
