Description:

Efficiency Nova Scotia provides energy rebates to businesses that choose energy efficient product solutions that can help them save energy, and the environment. The rebates make it more affordable to integrate these products into the business. 

Comments on Funding:

Energy rebates apply to upgrade projects or specific items. Small Businesses may receive a free energy assessment, rebates of up to 80% on upgrade projects, and 24-months interest free financing. Maximum payment will not exceed 60% of the equipment purchase price. 

Potential Rebate examples:

  • for energy efficient lighting upgrades, the potential rebate ranges from $3 to $500,
  • for products like air and ground source heat pumps, HVAC sensors the potential rebate ranges from $50 to $800,
  • for kitchen equipment the potential rebate is $2,000.

  • install products that reduce electrical consumption in a non-residential building serviced by a Nova Scotia electric utility,

certify that all equipment for which they are requesting a rebate has been installed within the last 90 days

takeCHARGE Business Efficiency Program

Description:

The takeCHARGE Business Efficiency Program provides support to businesses to make energy-efficient improvements to their business. It provides rebates on upgrades to your heating and cooling, refrigeration, lighting, and more.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is in the form of energy rebates.

Additionally, takeCHARGE may fund:

  1. 1
    50% of the cost of the audit, to a maximum of $3,000. A funding application must be pre-approved by takeCHARGE to get funding support.
  2. 2
    75% of the eligible costs of the feasibility study up to a maximum of $5,000. A funding application must be pre-approved by takeCHARGE to get funding support. Customers are encouraged to seek other sources of funding.

Description:

The takeCHARGE Isolated Systems Business Efficiency Program targets Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s (Hydro) commercial customers in isolated systems, providing support and financial incentives for a wide range of energy saving projects.

Incentives paid to the customer will typically be the lesser of:

  • an incentive based on first-year energy savings, at a rate of $0.4/kWh,
  • 80% of eligible project costs.

After the project has been successfully implemented, the final step of the ISBEP is the Project Close Out/Measurement and Verification step, primarily consisting of quantifying energy savings and finalizing incentives to be dispersed.

Commercial Buildings Retrofit Program

Description:

The Commercial Buildings Retrofit Program provides financial incentives to New Brunswick owners and operators of commercial buildings to reduce energy consumption, increase competitiveness, and create healthier, safer, and more comfortable workspaces for both their teams and customers. Funding can be used for an energy audit of the building and for an efficiency retrofitting project.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $8,000 towards an energy audit of your building, and up to $1,100,000 towards an efficiency retrofitting project.

Eligibility:

The following types of buildings are eligible:

  • commercial or institutional buildings such as, but not limited to: agricultural buildings, arenas, grocery stores, health care facilities, hotels, institutional buildings (colleges, hospitals, schools, universities, nursing homes), provincial buildings, office buildings, places of worship, recreational facilities, restaurants, retail buildings, stand-alone warehouses, water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • municipally owned buildings,
  • multi-unit residential buildings that have 3 or more units,
  • mixed-use commercial/residential buildings, including houses that have been modified for commercial use,
  •  Multi-building/national accounts.

Application Steps:

The applicant (the owner or operator of a commercial building) must:

contact an approved Energy Management Service Provider (EMSP) or Specialized Service Provider (SSP) to schedule an energy audit. The EMSP will perform the audit, discuss potential projects, prepare an audit report and submit an application on the applicant's behalf to NB Power. The Commercial Buildings Retrofit Program documents will be sent by email to the Participant once NB Power receives the program application.

Energy Management Information Systems (EMIS)

Description:

Energy management information systems provide industries the right information to help businesses optimize their energy use. Funding is up to $155,000 in incentives for EMIS.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is as follows:

  • 50% of eligible study costs, up to a maximum of $10,000 for EMIS Audit,
  • 50% of eligible study costs, up to a maximum of $35,000 for EMIS Design,
  • 50% of eligible project costs, up to a maximum of $80,000 for EMIS Implementation,
  • 50% of eligible project costs, up to a maximum of $30,000 for EMIS Optimization.
