Business Energy Rebates

Description:

Business energy rebates support businesses, non-profits and institutional organizations, as well as industrial/agricultural facilities in choosing high-efficiency products.

Comments on Funding:

There are direct incentives for each eligible product, ranging from $3 (decorative lamp) to $600 (Air Source HP - Small capacity heat pump).

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • be Prince Edward Island businesses, non-profits and institutional organizations, as well as industrial/agricultural facilities, 
  • choose energy-efficiency products.

Application Steps:

1

visit their local wholesaler or work with their contractor to identify which upgrades to make,

2

contact efficiencyPEI for pre-approval, if rebate amount is to be over $5,000, 

3

collect a detailed sales receipt outlining where the products were purchased and showing the model numbers for eligible products,

4

fill out the registration form,

5

drop off or mail their registration form and original copies of paid/dated receipt(s) to efficiencyPEI at one of the addresses listed below or any Access PEI.

Other Things to Note:

ENERGY STAR® is the mark of high-efficiency products in Canada. The familiar symbol makes it easy to identify the bet energy performers on the market. These products are tested and certified – they meet strict technical specifications for energy performance. Typically, an ENERGY STAR certified product is in the top 15 to 30 percent of its class for energy performance.

Solar Electric Rebate Program

Description:

The Solar Electric Rebate Program makes solar power more affordable than ever before by providing financial incentive for Island homeowners, farms and businesses to install solar PV panels.

Comments on Funding:

Incentives for Businesses and farms are $350/kilowatt installed, up to 40% of installed costs, to a maximum of $10,000.
Incentives for Homes are $1,000/kilowatt installed, up to 40% of installed costs, to a maximum of $10,000.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • be the legal property owner, business owner and/or a bona-fide farmer,
  • own an eligible building on Prince Edward Island including: a residential property, no more than three stories high, with a footprint smaller than 600 m² (6458 ft²), or commercial building with an operating business, or a farm building owned and operated year round by a bona-fide farmer, a single-family home, detached, side-by-side, row house or apartment building, a manufactured or mobile home with have a permanent electrical utility connection,
  • ensure that a solar PV system is eligible for net metering from his electric utility - Maritime Electric or the City of Summerside Electric Utility. The system must meet all applicable regulations under the Canadian Electrical Code and any additional provincial laws and regulations and must be installed by an efficiencyPEI Network of Excellence contractor.

Energy Efficiency Loan Program – Solar Photovoltaic Equipment (EELP-SERP)

Description:

The Energy Efficiency Loan Program for Solar Photovoltaic Equipment (EELP-SERP) will provide financing to qualifying Prince Edward Island home-owners, farms and businesses that are approved applicants under efficiency PEI’s Solar Electric Rebate Program. This will assist with the up-front costs associated with the purchase and installation of Solar PV equipment that can lower energy bills for Islanders.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is 100% of invoiced costs (including non-refundable HST) associated with the purchase and installation of Solar PV systems that have been pre-approved by efficiencyPEI under their Solar Electric Rebate Program.

The loan will bear interest at the fixed rate of 5% per annum and is repayable over a period not to exceed 15 years.

Loans to farms and businesses may exceed $25,000 (net of rebate). The amount of financing available will be based on the debt servicing capacity of the applicant, and availability of security.

The Loan will be secured by a promissory note and a collateral mortgage over the applicant’s real property on which the Solar PV equipment is installed.

The applicant must:

  • be home-owners Prince Edward Island residents with the property on which the Solar PV equipment is being installed as their principal residence,
  • be farm and business applicants operating on Prince Edward Island and registered under the Province of Prince Edward Island’s Corporations Act,
  • be pre-approved under efficiencyPEI's Solar Electric Rebate Program,
  • be the registered owner(s) of the property where the Solar PV equipment is being installed.

The EELP-SERP is not available for projects involving new home or building construction

contact efficiencyPEI to ensure that the proposed Solar PV project meets the program requirements,

2

submit quotes to efficiencyPEI for approval and await the project pre-approval letter,

3

 submit the efficiencyPEI pre-approval letter to Finance PEI with a completed financing application (farm and business applicants should contact Matthew McMillan for application requirements),

4

receive a pre-approval letter from Finance PEI, if approved for financing,

5

have work completed and submit invoices to efficiencyPEI for approval.

Finance PEI will contact client to have loan documentation executed. The efficiencyPEI rebate will be applied directly on the EELP loan to reduce the balance.

Energy Rebates

Description:

Efficiency Nova Scotia provides energy rebates to businesses that choose energy efficient product solutions that can help them save energy, and the environment. The rebates make it more affordable to integrate these products into the business. 

Comments on Funding:

Energy rebates apply to upgrade projects or specific items. Small Businesses may receive a free energy assessment, rebates of up to 80% on upgrade projects, and 24-months interest free financing. Maximum payment will not exceed 60% of the equipment purchase price. 

Potential Rebate examples:

  • for energy efficient lighting upgrades, the potential rebate ranges from $3 to $500,
  • for products like air and ground source heat pumps, HVAC sensors the potential rebate ranges from $50 to $800,
  • for kitchen equipment the potential rebate is $2,000.

  • buy new equipment only, 
  • install products that reduce electrical consumption in a non-residential building serviced by a Nova Scotia electric utility,
  • be all types of businesses, including small businesses, operating in a variety of sectors, like manufacturing, hospitality, agriculture, retail and others.

describe their next project, or give some details about what they’re looking to achieve,

receive Efficiency Nova Scotia's pre-approval prior to purchase and installation, in order to eligible for rebates and financing options,

certify that all equipment for which they are requesting a rebate has been installed within the last 90 days

The Retrofit Program offers tailored technical and financial support to help businesses reduce their electrical energy consumption and system-peak demand. Retrofit projects can reduce operational costs, increase asset value, and make businesses more competitive

Funding takes the form of:

    a feasibility study incentive for up to 100% of study cost, up to $15,000 (pre-approval for study is required), 
  2. 2
    implementation incentives of up to $0.10/kWh of first-year energy savings.

Eligible projects must:

  • save electrical energy,
  • be for facilities that have annual consumption of 350,000 kWh or greater,
  • propose measures that involve the installation of new, unused equipment,
  • not propose estimated total savings that exceed the historical consumption of the facility without adequate explanation.
