Affordable Housing Incentive

Description:

The Affordable Housing Incentive program provides funding to stimulate below market, affordable and accessible housing options in the City of Miramichi.  

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $10,000.00 per qualified rental unit.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be not-for-profit Housing Providers or Private Sector Developers,
  • have a registered ownership interest in the property named in the application based on the Service NB Property Account Number (PAN).

Eligible Projects:

  • must be approved for funding by CMHC and/or SD under their respective Affordable Housing Programs (Projects that are fully funded (100%) by the CMHC and/or SD Programs are deemed to be ineligible for this funding program),
  • must be located within the boundaries of the City of Miramichi,
  • must be located where existing municipal water & sewerage services are available unless approved by GMRSC-Planning & Building Services,
  • are limited to the creation of new Rental Units exclusively,
  • must receive Letter of Offer prior to the commencement of construction,
  • must meet or exceed all requirements of the City of Miramichi Zoning Bylaw #110 and building code requirements as determined by the GMRSC – Planning & Building Services,
  • that include a commercial property within the BIA, must have the BIA Levy for the subject property (PAN) up to date and paid in full for the previous taxation year.

contact the City of Miramichi, Department of Economic Development & Tourism to discuss the program and determine pre-eligibility, 

2

submit a completed application with all support documentation and obtain final approval prior to the commencement of any work related to the application.

Other Things to Note:

Successful applicants that meet the program criteria will be issued a Letter of Offer demonstrating the City of Miramichi’s commitment to the project and outlining any conditions that need to be satisfied prior to advancement of funds.

Options Youth

Description:

Options Youth is an employment wage subsidy program funded by Service Canada and facilitated by the Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre and Enactus Saint Mary’s. The program consist of personalized skill training and paid work placements to help Nova Scotian youth overcome barriers to enter the workforce.

Funding is a 700 hour wage subsidy, covering up to $9/hr, up to a maximum of $6,300

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • be employers in Nova Scotia,
  • hire a participant who will engage in virtual training throughout the program
  • place the participant on payroll. 

The participant must be:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection,
  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,
  • legally entitled to work in Canada,
  • in need of assistance to overcome employment barriers.

Innovation Ecosystem Activities

Description:

OSC's Innovation Ecosystem program is mobilizing the ecosystem to collaborate on ocean initiatives that transform the innovation landscape and have lasting impacts on the ocean economy.The program is designed to address shared talent challenges identified by OSC's members, attract the best entrepreneurs to the cluster, support the growth of work integrated learning environments and skill agility of the ocean workforce. OSC provides financial and in-kind support for approved projects.

Research & Development Program

Description:

The Research & Development Program provides research funding support to investigate, design and develop: materials or products that incorporate solid waste resources, technologies that will facilitate the separation and recovery of solid waste resources, and enhanced market opportunities for solid waste resources and/or recycled materials.

Comments on Funding:

Funding will be provided in the form of a non-repayable contribution or a conditionally repayable loan.
Funding is up to 50% of approved eligible costs, to a maximum of $50,000.
In some instances, where in the opinion of the Committee the project is of particular strategic value, a higher level of assistance may be offered.

Value-Added Manufacturing Program

Description:

Value-Added Manufacturing Program provides financial assistance to Nova Scotia-based businesses for the purpose of supporting the development of value-added products from materials recovered from the waste stream.

Funding is up to 50% of approved eligible costs.

  • be individual businesses organized as sole proprietorship's, partnerships, or corporations,
  • be business associations or industry groups,
  • be industry-led collaborative partnerships between the private and public sectors and two or more businesses or consortia,
  • hold the necessary licenses, leases, and permits, where applicable,
  • and/or project activities shall be based in Nova Scotia, unless specifically approved by Divert NS,
  • confirm at least a 20% equity position in the project to qualify for assistance. 

Divert NS encourages business alliances and partnered proposals for new products, services, and technologies of province-wide significance and benefit.
