NB Power

Business Rebate Program

Description:

The Business Rebate Program provides financial support to help businesses offset the costs of energy efficient products at their facility.  

Comments on Funding:

The funding is in the form of a rebate of 25% of eligible project costs. There is a lifetime cap of $250,000 per eligible
project site.

Eligibility:

The applicant must: 

  • be classified under the Small Industrial, General Service 1, or General Service 2 Rate Schedule as per NB Power’s Rate Schedules and Policies,
  • be located within New Brunswick,
  • have authorization to approve installation of equipment at the Eligible Project Site,
  • propose projects that replace existing equipment, decrease energy use, and result in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. 

Application Steps:

The applicant must:

1

complete the online registration form

2

develop scope, if he decides to proceed after Step 1. 

3

submit a pre-approval form,

4

implement the project, after approval is granted by Program Staff,

5

once the project is complete, he can request the incentive,

6

once NB Power has approved the payment request, the Incentive will be paid by direct deposit to participant’s account within 60 days.

Grants will be available until the budgeted amount of this program has been depleted for any calendar year.

Commercial Buildings Retrofit Program

Amount:

$1,000,000.00

Description:

The Commercial Buildings Retrofit Program provides financial incentives to New Brunswick owners and operators of commercial buildings to reduce energy consumption, increase competitiveness, and create healthier, safer, and more comfortable workspaces for both their teams and customers. Funding can be used for an energy audit of the building and for an efficiency retrofitting project.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $8,000 towards an energy audit of your building, and up to $1,100,000 towards an efficiency retrofitting project.

Eligibility:

The following types of buildings are eligible:

  • commercial or institutional buildings such as, but not limited to: agricultural buildings, arenas, grocery stores, health care facilities, hotels, institutional buildings (colleges, hospitals, schools, universities, nursing homes), provincial buildings, office buildings, places of worship, recreational facilities, restaurants, retail buildings, stand-alone warehouses, water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • municipally owned buildings,
  • multi-unit residential buildings that have 3 or more units,
  • mixed-use commercial/residential buildings, including houses that have been modified for commercial use,
  •  Multi-building/national accounts.

Application Steps:

The applicant (the owner or operator of a commercial building) must:

contact an approved Energy Management Service Provider (EMSP) or Specialized Service Provider (SSP) to schedule an energy audit. The EMSP will perform the audit, discuss potential projects, prepare an audit report and submit an application on the applicant's behalf to NB Power. The Commercial Buildings Retrofit Program documents will be sent by email to the Participant once NB Power receives the program application.

  • the signed Program Agreement,
  • the Audit Report which provides detailed information on potential energy efficiency projects along with their estimated costs, energy savings, and an estimate of the time it will take for the investment to be paid back as a result of energy savings,
  • the Statement of Work which documents the efficiency projects the applicant intends to implement,
  • the Request for Payment form along with copies of invoices, receipts, etc.

Other Things to Note:

The Commercial Building Retrofit Program has funding available for both electric and non-electric saving opportunities. Non-electric funding will expire on December 21, 2023

Energy Management Information Systems (EMIS)

Description:

Energy management information systems provide industries the right information to help businesses optimize their energy use. Funding is up to $155,000 in incentives for EMIS.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is as follows:

  • 50% of eligible study costs, up to a maximum of $10,000 for EMIS Audit,
  • 50% of eligible study costs, up to a maximum of $35,000 for EMIS Design,
  • 50% of eligible project costs, up to a maximum of $80,000 for EMIS Implementation,
  • 50% of eligible project costs, up to a maximum of $30,000 for EMIS Optimization.

Industrial Energy Efficiency Program

Amount:

Description:

The Industrial Energy Efficiency Program provides funding to large and small scale industry customers for both electric and non-electric saving opportunities for projects reducing electricity, for energy audit, feasibility studies, or service studies and for projects reducing greenhouse gases.

The project stream provides incentives on energy saving projects, including: process improvements, HVAC systems, refrigeration, building envelope, compressed air, energy intensity reduction, fuel switching.

Comments on Funding:

Funding for energy audit, feasibility studies or service studies for projects reducing electricity is up to 100% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $20,000 for small industries and $40,000 for large industries.

Project incentives for projects reducing electricity are the lesser of $0.108/kWh or 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $250,000 for small industries and $500,000 for large industries.

Project incentives for non-electric projects reducing greenhouse gases are 25% of capital costs.

Small and Medium Industry Incentives – Industrial Energy Efficiency Program

Description:

The Industrial Energy Efficiency Program provides funding to small and medium scale industry customers for both electric and non-electric saving opportunities for projects reducing electricity, for energy audit or feasibility studies, and for projects reducing non-electric fuels (propane, natural gas, etc.).

The custom stream provides incentives on energy saving projects, including: process upgrades, HVAC systems, refrigeration, building envelope, and compressed air.

Comments on Funding:

Funding for energy audit or feasibility studies for projects reducing electricity is 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $10,000.
Custom incentives for projects reducing electricity are the lesser of $0.108/kWh or 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $75,000 for small industries and up to a maximum of $150,000 for medium industries.
Custom incentives for projects reducing non-electric fuels start at 25% of capital costs.

  • operate in Prince Edward Island.
