Microgrant

Description:

The Music PEI Microgrant Program is designed:

  1. 1
    to celebrate local music, build community, and support creativity through the distribution of highly accessible grant funding,
  2. 2
    to invest in projects that will grow the professional profile of selected artists,
  3. 3
    to foster the development of all applicants’ business and grant writing skills,
  4. 4
    to assist successful applicants in reaching new audiences and building connections to the local music industry, and
  5. 5
    to encourage increased participation in the music industry on PEI by creating lasting partnerships between aspiring artists and Music PEI. 

Comments on Funding:

Microgrants will fund all eligible expenses to a maximum of $300.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • have been residents of Prince Edward Island for at least one year,
  • must have a permanent address in PEI,
  • not have received funding under the Emerging Music, Export Development, or Career Investment Programs,
  • belong to one or more of the following groups: Youth (specifically those 20 and under), women, LGBTQ2+, BIPOC and other underserved minorities. 

Application Steps:

are encouraged to book a consultation with a Program Officer at Music PEI prior to submitting their application, 

2

must submit the online application form, 

3

must sign a Letter of Acceptance/Investment Agreement within thirty (30) days of receiving an acceptance notification.

will receive 100% of the eligible expenses for the approved budget within thirty (30) days of submitting a signed Letter of Acceptance/Investment Agreement, 

5

must submit within sixty (60) days of project completion a Completion Report. 

Documentation Needed: 

​The applicant must submit:

  1. 1
    the application form,
  2. 2
    a brief letter (1-2 pages) introducing themselves, summarizing their project and identifying a strategic link between their project and the Microgrant Program’s objectives
  3. 3
    a simple budget listing anticipated expenses and revenues,
  4. 4
    creative content (ex. homemade audio or video, lyric sheets, designs, etc.).

Music PEI Investment Program – Career Investment Program

Amount:

$10,000

Description:

The Career Investment Program supports exporting artists who have demonstrated a commitment to a career in the Music Industry and are currently exporting their product to markets outside of PEI.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $10,000 over 1 year, 75% payable on approval and remaining payable on completion of final report.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • career artists (artists fulfilling seven (7) of the following nine (9) criteria: 
  • have an up to date marketing and business plan,
  • have at least three (3) commercial releases (minimum six (6) songs or thirty (30) minutes), at least one of which must have been released within the past thirty-six (36) months.
  • have a minimum of 50,000 streams on Spotify and/or other streaming services (includes YouTube views),
  • have upcoming bookings or a contract for a current musical production (i.e. live performance, stage production, song-writing collaboration, composition/soundtrack interest from film/TV, etc.),
  • have a dedicated bank account for their business,
  • have a history of regional industry recognition/awards,
  • have toured at least once outside of Canada or three times (3) outside of Atlantic Canada,
  • have an established team infrastructure (may include but is not limited to: manager, booking agent, or publicist),
  • have a minimum of 3,500 combined Likes/Follows on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or other social media).
  • PEI residents (the primary artist and/or the majority of the group must have a permanent address in PEI and the applicant has been a resident of PEI for at least one year),
  • Music PEI members.

​Career Investment applicants are only able to submit 1 application per deadline. Applicants who are successful in attaining investing through the Career Investment Program will not be able to apply for the round of investment funding that immediately follows.

  • the proposed project,
  • support materials,
  • a link to recorded music,
  • an artist biography and a high res artist photo,
  • a website and/or links to all other online profiles,
  • a detailed budget,
  • a business plan (including a critical path as well as a marketing plan).

​Applicants must complete an online “Completion Report” when submitting for final payments. It must include a full written summary of the project, measures for the success of the project and copies of all expenses and invoices.

Music PEI Investment Program – Export Development Program

Description:

The Export Development Program provides funding to artists and music industry professionals (MIPs) who demonstrate the potential to succeed in new or non-established markets outside of Prince Edward Island. Examples of eligible activities include the creation of a targeted demo, marketing and promotion, website development, touring and showcase expenditure, and professional business development.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $2,500 over 1 year for successful applicants, 75% payable on approval and remaining payable on completion of final report.

Eligibility:

The applicant must be:

  • export ready artists (artists fulfilling 6 of the following criteria: have an up to date marketing and business plan, have at least one (1) recording released (minimum 6 songs or 30 minutes) within the past thirty-six (36) months or four (4) singles released in the past twenty-four (24) months, have a minimum of 10,000 streams on Spotify and/or other streaming services (includes YouTube views), have upcoming bookings or a contract for a current musical production (i.e. live performance, stage production, song-writing collaboration, composition/soundtrack interest from film/TV, etc.), have a dedicated bank account for their business, have a history of regional industry recognition/awards and have toured at least once within Atlantic Canada).
  • exporting artists (artists fulfilling 7 of the following criteria: have an up to date marketing and business plan (For groups, band agreements are also mandatory), have at least one (1) recording released (minimum six (6) songs or thirty (30) minutes) within the past thirty-six (36) months or four (4) singles released in the past twenty-four (24) months, have a minimum of 20,000 streams on Spotify and/or other streaming services (includes YouTube views), have upcoming bookings or a contract for a current musical production (i.e. live performance, stage production, song-writing collaboration, composition/soundtrack interest from film/TV, etc.), have a dedicated bank account for their business, Have a history of industry recognition/awards beyond Atlantic Canada, have toured at least once outside of Atlantic Canada, have an established team infrastructure (may include but is not limited to: manager, booking agent, or publicist).
  • PEI residents (the primary artist and/or the majority of the group must have a permanent address in PEI and the applicant has been a resident of PEI for at least one year),
  • Music PEI members.

Music PEI Investment Program – Emerging Music Program

Description:

The Emerging Music Program is designed to help new and less established artists gain a foothold in the Music Industry. This is achieved by investing in projects that will enhance the applicant’s sales and marketability, as well as foster the development of the applicant’s business skills.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to: 

  1. 1
    60% of eligible expenses for Tour & Festival Support
  2. 2
    80% of Product Development, Showcase Support, Marketing and Promotion, or Commercial Recordings,
  3. 3
    100% for Live Performance Production Enhancement.

The non-repayable investment is up to a maximum of $1,000, 75% payable on approval and remaining payable on completion of final report.

The applicant must:

  •  emerging artists/groups (an artist or group who has not yet realized substantial provincial or regional exposure. Such artists have not yet secured a manager, agent, publicist, or record label),
  • PEI residents (the primary artist and/or the majority of the group must have a permanent address in PEI and the applicant has been a resident of PEI for at least one year),
  • Music PEI members.
