Advancing Public Trust Program

Description:

The objective of the Advancing Public Trust Program is to build trust and confidence in the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture, agri-foods and agri-products system. Agriculture awareness initiatives will highlight the agricultural sector in Newfoundland and Labrador, educate the public on farming practices and promote the high standards of food safety, environmental stewardship as well as animal and plant production standards utilized in the sector.

Comments on Funding:

Funding fo for-profit applicants is up to 75% of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $400,000 over the 5 years of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
Funding for not-for-profit groups and government is up to 100% of eligible expenses and up to 75% of eligible capital expenditures. They are not restricted to the $400,000 funding limit where the project has industry-wide benefit.
 


When It Ends:

Accepting applications starting February 1, 2022

Deadline:

March 31, 2023

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • producer organizations, 
  • processor organizations, 
  • other industry organizations, 
  • research bodies,
  • provincial government,
  • Indigenous government/community/groups,
  • having projects that aim to build trust and confidence in the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture, agri-foods and agri-products system.

Application Steps:

Documentation Needed: 

The applicant must submit:

  • the completed application,
  • a proposal including a purpose, goals, objectives, work plan, deliverables and proposed budget, for agriculture awareness projects,
  • a resume, curriculum vitae, or firm profile of their consultant, if requesting consultant services,
  • a quote, if requesting professional services/contractors,
  • the most recent financial information as appropriate,
  • a business plan, if a new entrant.

Other Things to Note:

This program is part of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a $3 billion, five year, Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Framework Agreement that will expire on March 31, 2023.

Agriculture Processing and Value-Added Program

Description:

The objective of the Agriculture Processing and Value-Added Program is to support value-added agriculture and agri-processing in Newfoundland and Labrador and to maintain and expand domestic and export competitiveness. This Program will build upon that success and create employment growth in the agri-processing sector, new economic opportunities for food processing, and new markets for local primary agricultural production.

  • a resume, curriculum vitae, or firm profile of their consultant, if requesting consultant services,
  • a quote, if requesting professional services/contractors,
  • the most recent financial information as appropriate,
  • a business plan, if a new entrant.

Mitigating Agricultural Risks Program

Description:

The objective of the Mitigating Agricultural Risks Program is to enable the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture and agri-foods industry to identify and respond to risks, and to implement risk prevention and risk mitigation measures.

Investments will support risk assessments, risk and emergency preparedness and planning, proactive risk mitigation measures, farm safety awareness, education, and implementation measures, on-farm and post-farm food safety programs and advisory services, biosecurity and traceability measures, plant health, and animal health and animal welfare systems. The Program will support risk management tools such as early identification of emerging risks, risk assessments and effective business management practices.

Agriculture Growth and Innovation Program

Description:

The objective of the Agriculture Growth and Innovation Program is to accelerate the pace of innovation, and enhance the growth, resiliency, competitiveness and productivity of the agriculture sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to: controlled environment agriculture and greenhouse systems, livestock production systems and technologies, apiculture production systems, crop production systems and technologies, fruit production systems and technologies, knowledge transfer and information sharing.

Comments on Funding:

Funding fo for-profit applicants is up to 75% of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $400,000 over the 5 years of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

  • a quote, if requesting professional services/contractors, 
  • a copy of their research proposal, budget and supporting documentation from their post-secondary institute, if applying for graduate research funding,
  • a proposal with an agenda/information package, list of exhibitors, speakers with biographies, location of the event, proposed budget with quotes and identify the target audience, if applying for funding to host a research forum or research conference,
  • the most recent financial information as appropriate,
  • a business plan, if a new entrant.

Agriculture Land Development Program

Description:

The objective of the Agriculture Land Development Program is to enhance the productive capacity of agricultural land in the province and to increase the utilization of agricultural land resources to address food self-sufficiency, domestic market development and environmentally sustainable crop management practices.

There is financing for: land development by clearing mineral soils, by development of new peat land, or by sub-surface drainage, construction of on-farm access roads, acquisition of agricultural land development equipment, for legal land survey, for organic land development, for rough cleaning of regional pastures for new pasture land.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is:

  • up to $1,500 per acre for mineral soils land enhancement,
  • up to $3,000 per acre for peat soils development, plus up to 75% of eligible costs for professional consultative and/or engineering costs,
  • up to $1,500 per acre for sub-surface drainage,
  • $26/metre (75 per cent of $35/metre maximum) for mineral soil on-farm access roads and $34/metre (75 per cent of $45/metre maximum)for peat land on-farm access roads, up to a maximum of 75% of the total actual cost incurred per metre, plus up to 75% of the costs for professional consultative and/or engineering,
  • up to $1,500 per acre for the rough clearing of new pasture land and $1,500 per acre for land enhancement of new pasture land, plus up to 100% reimbursement of expenses incurred for amendments to existing pasture land including the purchase and application of fertilizer, lime and manure and fence construction.

Funding is up to 75% of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $400,000 over the 5 years of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership. Land development project reimbursement is based upon acreage payments as mentioned above.

The applicant must:

  • Applicants must be Newfoundland and Labrador primary producers.

Application Steps:

Documentation Needed: 

The applicant must submit:

  • the completed application,
  • land title documents and map showing location of proposed land development, 
  • site design approved by the Lands Management Division of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, if applying for new peat land development and/or sub surface drainage,
  • land title documents, quote and map showing proposed work, if applying for access roads funding,
  • quotes with equipment specifications/brochures, if applying for land development equipment,
  • the crown lease application number and approval letter from Crown Lands, name of surveyor and their surveyor registration number, if applying for legal land survey,
  • a copy of the farm’s National Organic Certification, if applying for organic land development,
  • quotes for soil amendments, if applying for pasture land development,
  • the most recent financial information as appropriate,
  • a business plan, if a new entrant.
