Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador Job Grant (CNLJG)

Description:

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Job Grant (CNLJG) provides funding to eligible businesses and organizations to help offset the cost of training for their existing and future employees.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to a maximum of $10,000 per year towards training an existing employee and up to a maximum of $15,000 for training an unemployed participant.
The employer contributes at least one-third to the cost of training, with the exception of an unemployed participant.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • be a private sector employer, not-for-profit organization, industry association, employer consortia, unions, or an Indigenous government or organization,
  • be incorporated or a sole proprietor
  • have a Canada Revenue Agency business number, 
  • be in good standing with Registry of Companies and Deeds,
  • have an office location/base in Newfoundland and Labrador,
  • have a job for all participants at the end of training.

The participant must be:

  • an existing employee
  • an unemployed participant hired by the employer no more than 30 business days (six weeks) prior to the training date

Application Steps:

The applicant/employer must be:

register in LaMPSS and create an account to be able to apply online

complete and submit an online application in LaMPSS along with required information,

3

provide a Letter of Attestation and wait to be notified by email after a decision is made on the application – within 30 business days of applying,

4

submit the mandatory Client Contact Form and the mandatory Client Consent Form within 21 business days from approval

Complete applications must be received at least 20 business days prior to the start of training to ensure a timely review and assessment of the request for funding and to avoid delays in processing.

Documentation Needed: 

The applicant must submit:

  • an online application,
  • an Initial Client Contact Form and Client Consent Form for all employees being trained through funding provided by this program. The client consent allows for the exchange and release of information between the employee, the employer and the provincial and federal governments.
  • a Letter of Attestation when training an existing employee or unemployed participant.

The participant must submit proof of unemployment, if the case. Acceptable documentation includes but is not limited to Record of Employment, recent Notice of Termination from last employer, confirmation of Employment Insurance, or confirmation of Income Support.

Climate Change Challenge Fund (CCCF)

Description:

The Climate Change Challenge Fund (CCCF) is a competitive, application-based grant program designed to enable businesses, industry, municipalities, Indigenous organizations and public sector entities to undertake greenhouse gas reduction projects in Newfoundland and Labrador, to be implemented over three fiscal years (2019/20-2021/22).

Comments on Funding:

The minimum total CCCF funding grant, including stacking is $50,000 (this includes both federal and provincial contributions). There is no maximum funding request per applicant.
Funding recipients (except eligible Indigenous government and organizations) must provide monetary contribution for their share of eligible expenditures for the project.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • be private sector, for-profit organizations with operations in: primary agriculture, forestry and fishing, electricity generation, mining and quarrying, oil and gas, manufacturing, transportation, and commercial sector, including wholesale/retail trade, warehousing, business and professional services, information services, arts, environmental services, waste management, recreation, accommodations food and related services,
  • be not-for-profit organizations,
  • be public sector bodies or boards that are established by or under provincial statute or regulation or are wholly owned by a province or local or regional government,
  • be municipal governments established by or under provincial statute and municipal organizations,
  • be Indigenous governments and organizations,
  • carry on projects located in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Application Steps:

fill out the CCCF application form,

complete a signed project proposal and include supporting documentation,

3

submit all the above by email at climatechange@gov.nl.ca or by regular mail to the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment, Climate Change Branch, West Block, Confederation Building, P.O. Box 8700, St. John's, NL A1B 4J6.

Documentation Needed: 

  • a signed CCCF Application Form
  • a project proposal including, at a minimum: project description and background, organizational structure and management abilities, and a financial proposal.

​Invoices will be required to demonstrate incurred expenditures prior to a payment being issued by the Department. Advance payments will not be considered. Funding recipients will be required to provide the Department with a report on project outcomes, such as energy savings and GHG emissions reductions estimates, at a six-month and one-year period after the project has been deemed to be substantially completed by the Department unless otherwise agreed to by the Department and applicant.
