Description:

The Wage Support Program for Early Childhood Educators (WSP-ECE) is a wage enhancement program administered by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to support Operators of Early Learning and Childcare facilities with the recruitment and retention of trained educators. 

Comments on Funding:

There are two levels of funding, depending on the training of the educator:
Level 1: $7.25/hour for educators that have:

  • a Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Education,
  • a related degree in Education or Early Childhood Development,
  • an unrelated degree.

Entry Level: : $3.15/hour for educators that:

  • have Introduction to Early Childhood Education (90 hours),
  • are school age educators or relief staff (untrained).

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be operators of licenced early learning and childcare facilities,
  • be located in New Brunswick,
  • enroll their qualifying educators.

Eligible educators must be:

  • educators who contribute to the child-to-staff ratio and work in an educational capacity,
  • Early Learning and Childcare Home Operators,
  • administrators who act as pedagogical leaders (must be recognized as such by EECD and listed as administrator on the licensing documentation) ,
  • relief staff who are employed on a short term, temporary, or on-call basis, who are replacing the hours of an educator who cannot be present due to an authorized short or defined period of time such as, sick leave, appointments, vacation,
  • relief staff working with preschool age children for 10+ days/month (or 88+ hrs/month), if they have completed the Entry Level training. 

Application Steps:

The applicant must:

1

first login to the Operator Portal and consent to the Terms and Conditions for the WSP-ECE, 

2

enroll the qualifying educators, 

3

report the actual hours worked by all eligible employees on a monthly basis, 

4

review funding statements, 

5

renew program registration annually. 

Documentation Needed: 

​The applicant must submit ECE certificates and diplomas completed in or after June 2009.

Other Things to Note:

Grants will be available until the budgeted amount of this program has been depleted for any calendar year.

Early Learning and Child Care – Quality Improvement Funding Support (QIFS)

Description:

The Quality Improvement Funding Support program aims to make funding support available to approved child day care facilities to increase the availability and quality of child day care services in New Brunswick. 

Comments on Funding:

The funding rates for employees receiving wage enhancements are:

  • $5.75/hour for Educator, Administrator/educator, Administrators and Relief staff who have recognized Early Childhood Education training or a completed university degree in any discipline from a recognized Canadian institution.
  • $3.15/hour for Educator and Administrator/educator who do not have recognized Early Childhood Education training or a university degree.
  • $2.75/hour for Administrators and Relief staff who do not have recognized Early Childhood Education training or University degree.
    Employees are eligible for a wage enhancement up to a maximum of 44 hours per week.

Eligibility:

The applicant child day care facility must:

  • have a VALID Certificate of Approval (issued on or prior to March 31st of each year in order to be eligible to apply),
  • be located in New Brunswick.

Application Steps:

The applicant child day care facility must:

1

complete one (1) ANNUAL Application Form for each approved child day care facility before the program's deadline,

2

communicate valid and accurate information and cooperate with the Department regarding an audit or inquiry,

3

submit the Eligible Employee Forms and supporting documents, and Quarterly Hours Reports,

4

submit them by regular mail or email to EECD.

Documentation Needed: 

The applicant must submit:

  • an Eligible Employee Form for each employee eligible for the QIFS wage enhancement. The form MUST be signed, dated, and indicate the employee’s current hourly wage. 
  • any Early Childhood Education certificates or diplomas and/or copies of employee’s university degree(s),
  • Quarterly Hours Reports.

Other Things to Note:

The program is no longer listed among the services offered by the Education and Early Childhood Development department
