MusicNL Professional Development

Amount:

Description:

The MusicNL Professional Development provides assistance to artists or groups to improve creative skills, to gain greater knowledge of the music industry, to conduct business that seeks to promote and market MusicNL members outside the province, to attend music related conferences, festivals and events and to showcase a music conferences, festivals and events.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to 100% of eligible expenses to a maximum of:

  • $1,500 for Solo Artist domestic travel and $2,500 for Solo Artist international travel,
  • $2,000 for Duo domestic travel and $3,250 for Duo international travel,
  • $2,500 for Group (3 or more individuals) domestic travel and $4,000 for Group international travel.

Payment will be issued with 75% up front and 25% upon receipt of final report. Applications will be limited to a maximum annual funding of $4000 for solo members/artists and $8000 for group members regardless of the number of applications made in that period.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have been residents of Newfoundland & Labrador for at least six (6) months prior to the application. Proof of residency may be required.

Eligible travel under this program must originate and end in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Application Steps:

should contact MusicNL at least a month in advance of submission to discuss the proposed project before an application is submitted,

must submit the application electronically via the application form page, 

3

submit the final report and accompanying Expense Claim to receive the remaining 25% of the grant. 

Documentation Needed: 

Applicant must submit:

  • the completed application form
  • a complete project description, project objectives and information about how their project meets the goals of the funding program,
  • a complete budget,
  • a professional history,
  • the project agenda,
  • a written invitation to showcase, if showcasing/festival applicants,
  • documents demonstrating the ability to finance expenses not covered in this funding program.

​Approved applicants are required to submit a final report within thirty (30) days of the project end date.

Other Things to Note:

All projects must be approved by March 31 of the current fiscal year.

Applications must be received at the MusicNL office no later than 2 weeks (14 days) prior to the start date of the proposed project.

MusicNL Market Access

Description:

The MusicNL Market Access program provides to export-ready musicians touring outside of the province and expanding their market reach within and outside of Canada to present NL music as an art form and viable economic driver.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to 100% of eligible expenses to a maximum of:

  • $1,500 for Solo Artist domestic travel and $2,500 for Solo Artist international travel,
  • $2,000 for Duo domestic travel and $3,250 for Duo international travel,
  • $2,500 for Group (3 or more individuals) domestic travel and $4,000 for Group international travel.

​Market Access Application​​​

Artist Development

Description:

The Artist Development program provides funding to foster and support Newfoundland and Labrador musical culture through the funding of diverse artists and genres in demos, EP’s, full-length sound recordings, marketing and promotion materials.

Comments on Funding:

Program will be broken down into a 3-tier system. Applicants may apply for up to 75% of eligible expenses to a maximum of tier amount: $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000. Projects using Newfoundland & Labrador businesses are eligible for funding up to 75% of eligible costs. Any projects using businesses located outside of Newfoundland and Labrador are eligible for funding up to 25% of eligible costs.

Payment will be issued with 75% up front and 25% upon receipt of final report.
If applicant is a studio owner a cap of 25% will be applied to studios eligible expenses.
Monies are a grant and not repayable.

Artists that have already received funding assistance under this program are not eligible to reapply to the program for a period of twelve (12) months after the official release of the funded project.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • have been a resident of Newfoundland & Labrador for at least six (6) months prior to the application,
  • use the funding in Newfoundland and Labrador. Any portion of the project not completed in NL will only be eligible for 25% of costs reimbursed.
  • complete recordings in a studio that is located in Newfoundland and Labrador in order to access as an eligible expense,
  • not compile recordings of previously released material. The majority of any material to be recorded must be original content (i.e. previously unreleased). In some special instances, the jury may waive this requirement (i.e. specific genres). This waiver will be made at the discretion of the jury on a per project basis. In these cases, the jury will be instructed to evaluate based on the “originality” of the arrangement.

All music genres are eligible for support Not-for-profit groups or associations are not eligible under this program.
