Description:

The Public Trust and Agricultural Awareness program provides funds to accelerate the adoption and implementation of recognized food safety assurance systems, including food safety, biosecurity, traceability and animal welfare in the production, processing, transportation and distribution of New Brunswick Agri-Food products. The program provides support for the following elements: Assurance Systems Program, Food Safety and Quality Systems, Development and Implementation of a National Agriculture and Food Safety Traceability System, Biosecurity Implementation, Animal Welfare Assurance Systems and Agriculture Awareness. 

Comments on Funding:

Maximum funding is $50,000 over the life of the program for all applicants except commodity groups.
Maximum funding for individual businesses is $15,000 per year except for abattoirs under the Assurance Systems Program which has a maximum of $50,000 per year.

Funding for projects involving/benefiting one agriculture producer can be supported up to 50% of eligible activities. Group applications involving 2 or more agriculture producers can be supported up to 70% of eligible activities. Agriculture producers associations can be supported up to 100% of eligible activities.

Agriculture producers considered New Entrants (individuals who have reported farming income or owned a farm for 5 years or less) are eligible for an additional 10% contribution, provided the contribution does not exceed the established maximums under each program.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be Indigenous People or Organizations,
  • be agricultural producers (individuals or groups),
  • be agriculture producer associations,
  • be academic or research institutions,
  • be agri-businesses,
  • be other individuals or groups capable of achieving program objectives,
  • have operations in New Brunswick.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:

submit a completed application form and any additional required documentation to any Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DAAF) regional office or directly to the CAP Administrator, Industry Financial Programs, Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, P.O. Box 6000, Fredericton, NB E3B 5H1, or by e-mail to CAP.ADMIN@gnb.ca.

submit the signed Letter of Offer received upon approval within 30 days from receiving it,

provide DAAF any necessary information related to the evaluation of the project and demonstrate a significant contribution to the project.

Documentation Needed: 

Applicants must submit:

  • the application form,
  • the signed Letter of Offer.

Upon project completion, the completed Claim for Reimbursement form must be forwarded to the designated Project Officer together with a detailed invoice and proof of payment (an original receipt, image of cancelled cheque (front and back), or statement from financial institution showing transaction).

Other Things to Note:

This program is part of The Canada / New Brunswick Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP).

Approved projects must be completed within the fiscal year for which they were approved (April 1 to March 31).
