Description:

The Export Development Program provides funding to artists and music industry professionals (MIPs) who demonstrate the potential to succeed in new or non-established markets outside of Prince Edward Island. Examples of eligible activities include the creation of a targeted demo, marketing and promotion, website development, touring and showcase expenditure, and professional business development.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $2,500 over 1 year for artists and up to $1,500 over 1 year for music industry professionals, 75% payable on approval and remaining payable on completion of final report.

Eligibility:

The applicant must be:

export ready artists (artists with an up to date marketing and business plan, with at least one (1) recording released (minimum 6 song or 30 minutes) within the past two years, with minimum sales of 500 units, with upcoming bookings or a contract for a current musical production, with a strong professional history (bio), with an independent or established team/infrastructure; band agreements are mandatory for groups; solo artists must have a commercial bank account in place),
exporting artists (artists fulfilling at least 5 of the following criteria: a minimum of 1 nationally distributed release within the last 24 months, one internationally distributed recording, a minimum of 2,000 total unit sales of all recorded music products, currently exporting out of the country, artists who airplay, national charting on published charts, or video play, have an up to date marketing and business plan, have a management/self-management team with proven history, have industry recognition (nominations, awards, etc.),
Music Industry Professionals (MIP’s) which support at least 1 artist who has released a commercial CD within the past 12 months and 1 export ready or exporting artist/group (as defined for this program on your roster) in their client base, which own a registered Prince Edward Island business that has been active in the music business for at least 1 year, have a dedicated commercial bank account, registered in the company name and are currently working with at least 1 PEI artist),
PEI residents (the primary artist and/or the majority of the group must have a permanent address in PEI and the applicant has been a resident of PEI for at least one year),
Music PEI members.

Application Steps:

are encouraged to meet with the Program Officer prior to submitting applications,

must create an online applicant profile,

must submit a proposal through the online application process.

Documentation Needed:

The applicant must submit a proposal including the following:

contact Information,
the proposed project,
support materials,
a link to recorded music,
an artist biography and a high res artist photo,
a website and/or links to all other online profiles,
a detailed budget,
a business plan (including a critical path as well as a marketing plan).

Applicants must complete an online “Completion Report” when submitting for final payments. It must include a full written summary of the project, measures for the success of the project and copies of all expenses and invoices.
