Description:

The Arts Grants program offers three types of grants to support art and artists of Prince Edward Island: 

  1. 1
    The Creation Grant supports the creation of artistic projects by Prince Edward Island professional artists in the following disciplines: crafts; dance; interdisciplinary arts; film and media arts; music; theatre; visual arts; and writing and publishing. Eligible costs include living expenses and direct project costs, such as materials and supplies, pre-production research, documentation costs and equipment rental.
  2. 2
    The Dissemination Grant assists with the presentation of the works of PEI professional artists to the public, ideally in a critical and/or curatorial context, in the following disciplines: crafts; dance; interdisciplinary arts; film and media arts; music; theatre; visual arts; and writing and publishing.
  3. 3
    The Professional Development Grant supports the professional development of PEI professional artists’ careers in the following disciplines: crafts; dance; interdisciplinary arts; film and media arts; music; theatre; visual arts; and writing and publishing. This grant provides financial assistance for professional development and skill building activities that advance the artistic work and careers of eligible applicants. 

Comments on Funding:

Funding for the Creation Grant is up to $8,000 for established professional artists and $5,000 for emerging professional artists.

Funding for the Dissemination Grant is up to $2,500 for established professional artists and $2,000 for emerging professional artists.

Funding for the Professional Development Grant is up to $2,500 for established professional artists, $2,000 for emerging professional artists $1,000 for amateur artists.

Funding for Visual Arts Material Grants is up to $750.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • be Prince Edward Island-based Indigenous artists, or groups (including ad-hoc groups),
  • be professional artists which includes but is not limited to the following criteria:
    a) to have peer recognition,
    b) to have a history of public presentation,
    c) to have training appropriate to the artist's chosen discipline (including learning from elders, mentorship and/or apprenticeship training),
    d) to earn income, fully or in part, from artistic activity,
    e) to demonstrate serious intent and devotion of energy to practicing art.

  • have a PEI address as their primary residence for a minimum of twelve consecutive months.

    Ad hoc groups are applicants who are two or more individuals who are working collaboratively and are not registered in any manner.

    a curriculum vitae or resume,

    project description, including the start and end date of the project, the amount requested, as well as any other relevant information,

    a project plan and details of how the project will be executed,
  4. 4
    appropriate support material demonstrating recent artistic achievements,
  5. 5
    acceptance into a program (required for Professional Development),
  6. 6
    written offer for exhibition, performance, where appropriate,
  7. 7
    tour date confirmation, where appropriate,
  8. 8
    letters of support, where appropriate.
