Agriculture Growth and Innovation Program

Description:

The objective of the Agriculture Growth and Innovation Program is to accelerate the pace of innovation, and enhance the growth, resiliency, competitiveness and productivity of the agriculture sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to: controlled environment agriculture and greenhouse systems, livestock production systems and technologies, apiculture production systems, crop production systems and technologies, fruit production systems and technologies, knowledge transfer and information sharing.

Comments on Funding:

Funding fo for-profit applicants is up to 75% of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $400,000 over the 5 years of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
Funding for not-for-profit groups and government is up to 100% of eligible expenses and up to 75% of eligible capital expenditures. They are not restricted to the $400,000 funding limit where the project has industry-wide benefit.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • primary producers and producer organizations, 
  • processors and processor organizations, 
  • other industry organizations, 
  • research bodies,
  • provincial/territorial government,
  • Indigenous government/community/groups,
  • having projects that accelerate the pace of innovation, and enhance the growth, resiliency, competitiveness and productivity of the agriculture sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Application Steps:

Applicants must submit the completed application form and supporting documents by email at CAP@gov.nl.ca, fax at 709-637-2589 or in hard copy by regular mail.

Documentation Needed: 

The applicant must submit:

  •  the completed application,
  • quotes with equipment specifications/brochures, if applying for equipment financing,
  • land title documents, quotes with brochures, floor plans, materials list and map showing facility and/or infrastructure location on site, if applying for facility and/or infrastructure funding,
  • a quote, if requesting professional services/contractors, 
  • a copy of their research proposal, budget and supporting documentation from their post-secondary institute, if applying for graduate research funding,
  • a proposal with an agenda/information package, list of exhibitors, speakers with biographies, location of the event, proposed budget with quotes and identify the target audience, if applying for funding to host a research forum or research conference,
  • the most recent financial information as appropriate,
  • a business plan, if a new entrant.

Other Things to Note:

This program is part of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a $3 billion, five year, Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Framework Agreement that will expire on March 31, 2023.
